The Race Season is Finally Here

The season has finally started.....right now we are at Nakiska doing our usual pre-season training before leaving for Lake Louise for the first World Cup Speed of the season. I’m really looking forward to the first race of the season because it has been such a hard summer in the gym and on the slopes over in South America and Europe and it’s time to get that race vibe going now. The last ski camp of the summer was in Tignes, France and it went really well. We had great weather for the whole camp and the snow was exactly what we needed.

After the camp in Tignes all the GS skiers went off to Solden, Austria for the first GS world cup of the season while Manny and myself went back home to get some much needed rest. When I was back home I was able to go down to the GM wind tunnel to work with the people from Spyder on our Downhill Suits. It was my second time being down in Detroit at the wind tunnel but it was just as useful as my first time. I was able to work on positioning in my tuck which you think would be a simple thing but it’s amazing how much time you can gain but just changing some little things.

Lake Louise is about 2 weeks away now and I can’t wait.....I look forward to seeing everyone there!!!

Summer Training

It’s hard to believe that my summer training in the gym is coming to an end and that the winter is just around the corner but I guess that’s life. It feels like it was just a few weeks ago when I was getting back from my trip to Maui and thinking to myself that I should probably start getting ready for team testing and now I’m getting ready to go skiing. It has been a very tough summer of training but I think it has been my most productive summer of training ever. I decided that I was going to ride my road bike to training everyday which made things a little hard sometimes but in the end I think it made all the difference. It really showed me how much I can push myself when I want to.

We just recently finished out first ski camp down in Argentina and Chile. We spent the 1st week down in Argentina in a place called Ushuaia, which I’ve heard is the southernmost city in the world. It was cool because I have never been to Argentina before and since it was out first week we were just getting use to skiing again and getting our feet underneath us. Since Ushuaia is right on the ocean it made for a very cold camp which was difficult because we were all coming from a nice warm summer back at home but in the end it was awesome.

For the remainder of the camp we were in Portillo where the pace of the camp picked up and we started skiing a lot more in the gates. At the beginning of the camp the snow was very soft so we did a lot of work on the test track with our skis and our positions in our tucks. In the middle of the camp it snowed close to 150cm which made training a little difficult but the powder skiing was sweet!!! Nothing wrong with skiing powder in August. For the last week of the camp the weather was perfect and we were able to ski more DH and SG which was a lot of fun. Being able to put the long boards on put a smile on everyone’s face.

I think that the camp went really well and it was a great way to start the season. Everyone was pumped to be back on snow and now we are all just itching for the season to start. Right now I am back in Calgary just about to get back on a flight directly back to Chile for our 2nd camp. Being home for a few days of rest and being able to get back into the gym was great but it’s time to get back onto the snow....

Europe

Hello Everyone,

It has been awhile since my last update but things have just been a bit crazy this season. Right now I am in Europe and I have been racing most of the Speed World Cups this year. It has been a huge learning experience for me this year, trying to get as many runs on the new courses as possible and just gain as much experience as I can for the future.

I was able to race the famous Kitbuhel Hahnenkamm this year for my first time ever and it is one thing that I am never going to forget. It is one of the most demanding courses on the circut and I am happy I can say I have done it.

We have another week left in Europe and then I will be coming back to Canada for Nationals and the World Cup out in Whistler.

Chat Soon...

Summer Training

Hello Everybody,

This summer of training was my first year being with the Men's World Cup Speed Team. I finally made the step up from the Development Team and I am looking forward to the upcoming year. The summer started off with a team road bike trip from Calgary to Whistler. It was a amazing trip across the rockies and one I will never forget. Then after a 10 day road bike trip to Whistler, we were back into the gym and plenty of weights to come for the rest of the summer.

Our first ski camp for the summer was a 2 week trip to La Parva in Chile and then we came home for 10 days of rest and then went back down to Portillo in Chile for another 2 week camp of skiing. The 2 camps were amazing, the weather was perfect and the training was more then I ever expected.

Our last camp before the season starts just finished. We were up at Farhnem, a glacier in BC. We had a speed track built specifically for us and again the training was amazing. We were there for 2 weeks and now our team has gone different directions for the next bit. 6 of the guys have gone over to Europe to Solden for the first race of the season and then we will meet back up in Panorama in a couple weeks for a little more training before Lake Louise.

I will write more when I get back on snow soon.
